Conditions were fairly mild in West Texas today, thanks to a little cloud cover overhead. This evening, those clouds should clear out and give us a great view of an extremely rare Blue Supermoon!

Humidity has increased a little bit across West Texas, but Meteorologist Ryan DePhillips still expects plenty of sunshine and above-normal temperatures. Enough stable air aloft will greatly limit rain activity across The Basin with only a few isolated thunderstorms mostly confined to the mountainous terrain.  Temperatures will reach the upper 80’s, 90’s, and low triple digits before storms form. Winds will shift more from the southeast across most of the region today, allowing for the seasonably very warm air, but also, the humidity. This trend will continue through tomorrow as more clouds, slightly more rain activity, and slightly lower temperatures will ensue.

A late summer’s warmup will ensue across West Texas as with more sun than clouds for most communities, Meteorologist Ryan DePhillips predicts temperatures to reach the upper 80’s, 90’s, and lower triple digits. Combining Monsoonal moisture from the southwest with a frontal boundary to the northeast, a few strong thunderstorms will form in The Trans Pecos and in southeastern areas of The Basin. Winds will shift when those storms drift to the southeast, but southwesterly winds will generally start to shift to from the southeast elsewhere. As a result, slightly muggier conditions will return ahead.

Meteorologist Ryan DePhillips highlights how the stagnant air mass in the upper levels of the atmosphere is allowing for mostly clear skies and higher temperatures across The Basin. Despite a lot of sunshine with temperatures reaching the upper 80’s, 90’s, and lower triple digits this afternoon, a weak low pressure system will form to kick up a few isolated thunderstorms that will extend from The Trans Pecos into the southeastern Basin. Winds will shift from the southeast to the southwest for many which will allow for the warmer and drier air for the first half of the afternoon, but a few storms will pick up those winds from the northwest from time to time. The muggier trend will slowly start to win out ahead.

A high pressure will build in across West Texas to produce sunnier and warmer conditions this afternoon as Meteorologist Ryan DePhillips expects many to reach the 80’s, 90’s, and around 100 degrees. Despite a few thunderstorms possible in the mountainous terrain, plenty of sunshine with warmer and drier afternoon conditions will be the big story. Southeasterly winds in eastern areas will keep things a little bit muggy, while southwesterly winds in The Trans Pecos will make conditions a bit drier. This trend will continue for at least the next couple of days as rain activity will remain very isolated.
