Southwest Foodservice Excellence making Greenwood ISD lunches healthier

Students are receiving a healthier alternative to the average school lunch at Greenwood ISD. On average, Greenwood High serves 2,500 lunches every day, which is up almost 20% from that number a year ago.

The food is wonderful we have more students eating than ever before

Sandra Smith, Food Coordinator

That number is up mainly because of students wanting to eat new lunches.

Bringing in SFE gave us an opportunity to expand the choices for kids and just make it a better opportunity to eat

Ariel Elliott, Superintendent

SFE prides themselves in serving nutritionally balanced meals approved by a nutritionist assigned to each school. Meals can rotate every five weeks and students can do a taste test to see what should be added and removed from the menu. SFE also promotes regional foods from local farmers markets

We are here to feed kids, that’s our goal. Having a well balanced nutritional lunch gets them ready to learn

Randall Marlatt, General Manager, SFE

They offer special days for teaching nutritional education, and the students make the food with the chefs. Financially, it works for the school districts too. SFE offers to cover any costs if the district doesn’t break even.
