TWO-A-DAYS: McCamey Badgers

MCCAMEY, Tx – The McCamey Badgers are bringing back one of the most important things a football team can have this season: experience.

The Badgers bring back 10 seniors this year, and that leadership will be one of the team’s biggest strengths according to head coach Michael Woodard. This is Woodard’s second season as McCamey’s head football coach.

McCamey went 1-2 in districts last season and was automatically given a playoff spot because of their four-team district. The Badgers won their first game and made an appearance in the area round. That playing time and playoff experience is “huge” for the Badgers according to Woodard.

“Experience means those guys have been there before and they know how to make the right decisions and they know how to lead,” Woodard said.

Many of the seniors on this year’s team said they are just thankful to have a season at all during the pandemic.

“If I wear a mask and I can wear a jersey, that’s all that matters to me really,” said senior Xavier Urias.
