BIG SPRING, Tx – The Big Spring football team was forced to start a young roster last season, and the Steers are hoping that experience will pay off this season.
Head Coach Cannon McWilliams said he will benefit from last year’s experience, too. This is McWilliams’ second year as the Steers’ head coach.
“I thought I had an idea, but I had zero clue what it was like to be a head football coach,” he said.
After playing a large amount of sophomores last season, McWilliams said the team should be junior-heavy this year with some seniors “sprinkled in.”
One of the areas that will benefit from a large amount of returners is the offensive line.
“Our center’s coming back, our left guard’s coming back, our quarterback…the first time since I’ve been here we’ve got a returning starter at quarterback. So it’s nice to have that experience,” McWilliams said.
