Wink expecting tough test from Stratford in Region I Final

The Wink Wildcats (10-3, 3-0) extended their season at least another week with a dramatic 28-21 victory over Vega in the 2A, Division II Region I Semifinal.

After falling behind 21-0, the Wildcats rallied off 28 unanswered to defeat the Longhorns.

Up next, Wink will battle Stratford (12-1, 4-0) in the 2A, Division II Region I Final.

Both teams come into the game with long winning streaks intact – the Wildcats have won their last 9 games, while the Elks have won their last 11.

The two teams have shared two common opponents – McCamey and Vega.

Wink defeated McCamey 42-14 in its regular season finale.

Stratford, on the other hand, defeated the Badgers 69-18 in the Bi-District round of the postseason. The Elks were also victorious over Vega, edging out the Longhorns 40-19 on the road.

The Region I Final will kick off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Texas Tech’s Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.

The victor will advance to the 2A, Division II State Semifinals to face the winner of Wellington/Hamlin.
