UIL recommends temporary suspension of activities following July 4th holiday

Sports

On Wednesday, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) issued a recommendation for all schools to temporarily suspend activities from July 3-12th.

According to the organization’s statement, the guidance was issued “in anticipation of the July 4 holiday and the potential for increased social interactions that could spread COVID-19”.

Specifically, the UIL “is recommending schools consider closing summer workouts, rehearsals, practices, and instruction between July 3-12, resuming Monday, July 13th”.

On June 8th, the UIL allowed school to begin voluntary, in-person strength and conditioning workouts with various social distancing measures in place.

Since then, however, many schools – including nearly a dozen in the Permian Basin – have suspended those workouts at some point.

Several high school sports, including football and volleyball, are scheduled to start preseason practices on August 3rd.
