Midland Lee returns to the football field this season with the goal of creating an elite program, according to head coach Clint Hartman.
The Rebels return quite a few key assets from last season on both sides of the ball.
“A lot of seniors coming back so a lot more people know what they’re doing on the field and stuff so that makes it better for us,” said senior wide receiver Loic Fouonji.
Junior Mikey Serrano will take over as starting quarterback for the Rebels this season, although he got plenty of playing time for the team last year. Serrano started just one game for Lee as a sophomore but broke the school’s record in rushing and touchdown passes in that game.
Along with last year’s playing time, Serrano said knowing he has solidified the position as the team’s starter has been a confidence boost this year.
Midland Lee lost out in the Area Round last season, but put its name on the map with the talented roster it boasted. Now that many of those star players have returned with even more experience, Hartman expects people to notice it even more.
“We’re on the map. People talk about us. People are wondering what’s going on out in the desert, you know and that’s okay with us.”
