Eight years ago, Vance Jones took over the Balmorhea football team, with hopes of bringing a winning culture to the program.
“So far, the kids have stepped up,” said Jones. “They’ve done everything I’ve asked them to do and worked hard. We’ve gotten better every year.”
In 2016 and 2017, the Bears advanced all the way to the State Championship game. In 2018, Balmorhea made another deep playoff run before falling to Garden City (48-14) in the 1A, Division I quarterfinals.
This fall, the Bears will rely on a large group of upperclassmen (5 seniors, 12 juniors) to help them advance farther in the postseason.
“I feel like we can set up and matchup with anybody,” said Jones.
Ready to matchup and make another run at the title.
“We’ve got a great group of kids coming back,” said Jones. “I really think it’s time for us to shine again.”
