TAPPS delays fall sports by 5 weeks, will play shortened FB, VB seasons

In a major announcement on Friday, the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) outlined its plan for fall and winter sports for the upcoming academic year.

Most notably, the organization delayed the start of practices for its fall sports by five weeks.

New start dates for football

  • Tuesday, Sept. 8th: first day for practices
  • Monday, Sept. 14th: first day for full-contact practices (full pads)
  • Monday, Sept. 21st: first day for scrimmages (each team allowed one)
  • Thursday, Oct. 1st: first day for games

New start dates for volleyball

  • Tuesday, Sept. 8th: first day for practices
  • Monday, Sept. 14th: first day for scrimmages
  • Monday, Sept. 21st: first day for games

In addition, TAPPS announced that state championships for those sports would be played as originally scheduled – effectively shortening those seasons by five weeks.

After Friday’s announcement, Midland Christian and Midland Trinity were forced to make several adjustments to their schedules for the upcoming football season.

Midland Christian football schedule changes

  • Week 1: at El Paso Americas – CANCELED
  • Week 2: at Fort Worth Christian – CANCELED
  • Week 3: vs. Wall – CANCELED
  • Week 4: at Fort Worth Nolan Catholic – POSTPONED*
  • Week 5: vs. Dallas Parish Episcopal – POSTPONED**

*Midland Christian will work with TAPPS to reschedule its district game at FW Nolan Catholic. If no agreement can be reached, the game will be canceled.

**Midland Christian will likely reschedule its district game vs. Dallas Parish Episcopal to October 2nd (Week 6). MCS had an open week scheduled for that date; Parish Episcopal had a non-district game scheduled at Dallas Bishop Dunne.

Midland Trinity football schedule changes

  • Week 1: vs. Midland TLCA – CANCELED
  • Week 2: at Nueces Canyon – CANCELED
  • Week 4: at Sanderson – CANCELED
  • Week 5: vs. Lubbock All Saints – POSTPONED^

^Midland Trinity will attempt to reschedule its district game vs. Lubbock All Saints. Doing so would ensure the Chargers an opportunity to play each of its district opponents.

TAPPS also delayed the start of its winter sports seasons by two weeks. High school basketball practices will now begin on Monday, November 2nd with games starting on Monday, November 16th.
