Sul Ross State athletic department announces coaching changes

The Sul Ross State Lobos have adjusted some of the athletic department’s coaching roles, the school announced on Friday.

The changes are part of an effort to achieve optimal results based on their coaches’ skill sets, workloads, and areas of expertise.

The shakeups also mark some of the first major adjustments at Sul Ross under the guidance new athletic director Jim Goodman, who was hired in May.

Women’s basketball assistant coach Rachel Baity will transition from women’s cross country head coach to women’s tennis head coach.

Katie Novak, the Lobos’ most recent head coach for women’s tennis, will remain with Sul Ross as the school’s women’s basketball head coach – a position she has held since 2017.

Patrick Mound, a Sul Ross alumnus, will take over as the school’s head coach for men’s tennis. In June, Mound was hired as an assistant for men’s basketball and the head coach for men’s cross country. He will retain his role as an assistant within the basketball program.

Antuan Washington will assume head coaching duties for the men’s and women’s cross country teams. He most recently served as the school’s head coach for men’s tennis.
