Southlake Carroll cheerleaders raise $21,000 for victims of Odessa shooting

Sports

As Southlake Carroll prepares to face Permian on Friday night, the Dragons cheerleaders have been hard at work collecting donations.

Since the mass-shooting in Odessa on August 31st, the school has been selling t-shirts that read “We are ONE with Odessa”.

The two stars on the shirts correspond with Odessa and Southlake’s location in the state of Texas.

Late Thursday night, the Dragon Cheer Booster Club announced it had raised $21,000 through t-shirt sales.

Before Friday’s game, a check for that amount will be donated to the Odessa Community Foundation, which benefits the shooting victims and their families.

A portion of the amount donated will be earmarked for the family of Leilah Hernandez. The 15-year-old Odessa High student was the youngest person killed during the shooting.
