Sands Lady Mustangs preparing for Regional Quarterfinal vs. New Home

Sports

The Sands Lady Mustangs are the only girl’s basketball team from the Permian Basin remaining in the UIL playoffs.

A major strength for Sands this season has been the team’s strong defense. Head coach Ben Connell credits that play for much of the Lady Mustangs’ success.

Entering with a record of 32-3, the Stangs will face one of their toughest opponents all season on Tuesday night; Sands will match up with New Home in the 1A Region I Quarterfinal in Denver City at 7:30 p.m.

Both teams enter the contest with a top-ten ranking from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. The Lady Mustangs are #5 in 1A – the Lady Leopards are #6.

This will be the second consecutive appearance in the Regional Quarterfinal for the Stangs. Sands will look to build off of last year’s performance in this round when the team was eliminated by Ropes (42-38).
