For the second time this week, a pitcher for the Midland RockHounds has been promoted within the Oakland A’s farm system.
On Wednesday, RockHounds starter Brian Howard was called up to the Las Vegas Aviators (AAA).
The former TCU Horned Frog is rated as the 20th overall prospect within Oakland’s minor league system.
Earlier this month, Howard was chosen to represent the South Division in the Texas League All-Star Game. In 20 starts for the RockHounds this season, he posted a 7-7 record along with a 2.97 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 115 innings pitched.
He also spent the second half of 2018 in Midland, posting a 4-4 record in 12 starts, a 3.48 ERA, and 63 strikeouts in 63.1 innings pitched.
On Tuesday, the Athletics also promoted pitcher A.J. Puk from AA-Midland to AAA-Las Vegas. Puk is rated as the second-best prospect in Oakland’s system and the 34th overall prospect in all of baseball.
