Odessa High’s Brooks set record, wins gold at Texas State Powerlifting Meet

ODESSA, Texas – The Odessa High Bronchos picked up a second-place finish as a team at this year’s Texas High School Powerlifting State Meet.

Leading the Bronchos was senior Gary Brooks, who won an individual state championship in the 242 weight class. His performance was highlighted by a state record – squatting 815 pounds!

Isaac Estrada joined Brooks as an individual medalist for the Bronchos. Estrada, a fellow senior, finished 2nd place for the 132 weight class.

Another senior from the Basin, Midland Lee’s Leo Uresti, finished 2nd place in the 181 weight class.

Congratulations to each of these standout performers, as well as all the other State Meet qualifiers from the Basin who competed!
