Odessa College hires Franqua Bedell as women’s basketball head coach

Odessa College has hired Franqua Bedell as its next women’s basketball head coach, the school announced on Thursday.

Most recently, Bedell served as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Missouri State.

Bedell also has previous head coaching experience within junior college women’s basketball. Prior to his stop at Missouri State, Bedell spent six years at the helm of Tallahassee Community College (FL). In 2018, he was named the NJCAA Tournament Coach of the Year and Spalding’s National Coach of the Year after leading the Eagles to a national championship.

As Bedell begins his tenure at OC, the Lady Wranglers will not take the floor until the fall semester of 2021.

In May, Odessa College’s previous head coach Ara Baten departed to accept the same position at South Plains College.

On June 26th, in response to the program’s head coaching vacancy along with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Odessa College announced it would furlough its women’s basketball program for the 2020-21 season.
