Midland High hires Dustin Faught as next boys basketball head coach

Sports

Just over a month after Midland High’s Shannon Hooker announced his retirement, Dustin Faught has been hired by Midland ISD to succeed him as the school’s next head coach for boys basketball.

Faught has spent the last four years as the head coach for the Bulldogs’ soon-to-be district rivals, San Angelo Central. This will be Faught’s second stint at Midland High; he previously served as an assistant coach under Trey Watts from 2007-09.

The Faught family is also highly regarded in Brownfield. In 2016, Dustin led the boys basketball team to a 3A State Championship.

His father, Dickie Faught, also coached Brownfield to a state title with the girls basketball team in 1988. That season, the Lady Cubs were led by future Hall of Famer and NCAA champion at Texas Tech, Sheryl Swoopes.
