The West Texas Heat baseball teams have started raising and donating money to local restaurants to provide meals for healthcare workers and first responders.
The West Texas Heat is a USSSA youth baseball organization based in Monahans. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the teams decided to cancel or back out of most of their tournaments in the last few weeks, including an upcoming trip to a tournament in Ruidoso, NM. They decided to donate the entry money from that tournament to the restaurants and invited anyone to help them raise money for the donation.
“I guess it’s just been really good to do something for a lot of people in our community to tell them thank you and let them know we appreciate them for what they do for us,” said coach Garrett Brown.
As of Tuesday evening, the teams had already compiled more than $1,600 for the meals.
