UTPB Recap: Falcons drop first conference game

Local Sports

The UTPB Women’s Basketball Team lost its first conference game to Cameron over the weekend.

UTPB is now 5-4 overall and 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play.

Head coach Rae Boothe said her team had a hard time defending two talented shooters on Cameron’s team, partly because of injury.

“Whatever defense we tried, we were unsuccessful. Credit to them, they’re very good, but I just never felt like we had the composure to have a clue of where she is or where she is. And I think that’s where we just have to grow up a little bit as a program and mature,” Boothe said.

“We knew who the shooters were and we worked on it and we knew everything but we somehow still let them go off for 50 points so I think it’s just knowing how to stop the key players when Coach tells us we need to stop the key players,” said senior guard Kristian James.

The Falcons have two “must-win” games according to Boothe next week. UTPB will go on the road to face Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday and Texas A&M International on Saturday.
