UTPB announces second annual toy toss

Local Sports

The UTPB Men’s Basketball Team announced its second annual Toy Toss will be Saturday, Dec. 7.

The Falcons are inviting fans to collect new or gently-used toys to toss onto the court after the Falcons score their first point in Saturday’s game. Schools around the Basin are also collecting the toys to bring to the gym either Friday or Saturday.

The toys will be donated to children across the Basin who need some extra love this holiday season. Last year the team ended up donating the toys to the Salvation Army, various churches, both the Midland and Odessa police departments and more.

UTPB collected more than 2,500 toys last year, and head coach Josh Newman said he hopes to gather more this season.

“They get to throw it at the officials, they get to throw it at the opposing team, probably not our players, but that’s why it needs to be a soft toy,” Newman said.

Saturday’s game against Sul Ross State tips off at 1 p.m.
