The Andrews High School gymnasium was an exciting place to be Tuesday evening, and not just because of the district ball games or senior night. On Monday night, Tytan Richters was surprised with his Make a Wish destination.
The nine-year-old was diagnosed with Juvenile Dermatomyositis, JDM, in May of 2017. JDM is an auto-immune disease that attacks muscles and soft tissue instead of protecting them.
Though it’s been a long time coming, Tytan and his family learned they will make a trip to Tahiti for his Make a Wish reveal. He had no idea the trip would be revealed during the basketball games and said he was very surprised.
“We were really shocked…and I’m blown away they were able to pull it off,” said his mom, Kerri Richters.
Kerri said in an email to Andrews ISD that there is a 50/50 chance that Tytan could outgrow the disease or it could go into a stage of remission, but it is a case-by-case basis.
“Tytan has a Tribe of people that love him, and are cheering him on through this battle and we are so grateful for each and everyone!” she said in the email.
