The UIL recommended schools take last week off of summer workouts following the July 4th holiday to limit the spread and exposure of COVID-19.
Those that participated in the voluntary suspension returned to workouts Monday, July 13.
In addition to the voluntary suspension recommendation, the UIL has also updated its summer workout policies amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The League already gave schools several guidelines to follow concerning disinfecting equipment and hand sanitizer stations at the beginning of the summer. It’s recently added a face-covering requirement. All athletes and staff must wear a mask upon entering the facility, when an individual is within six feet of another, and when not actively exercising.
As of Monday, July 13, athletes are also allowed to use showers and locker rooms if schools have developed mitigation plans as laid out by the UIL.
