Permian record-holder Tyra Harris will continue her track career at the next level.

Harris signed her Letter of Intent with Johnson C. Smith University Friday afternoon. The school is a division II program in North Carolina.

Harris holds the Permian school record in the 200 meter dash, the 4×100 meter relay and the 4×200 meter relay. While Harris said she is upset she did not get to finish her senior track season, she said the opportunity compete in college helps soften the blow.

The senior said she thinks her time at Permian has helped prepare to compete at the next level because of the work ethic the coaches and program has instilled in her, specifically the ability to compete under pressure.

“If I can do that here, I can do that at the collegiate level,” she said.
