Garden City senior Shay Miller is a multi-sport athlete for the Bearkats, but it’s his favorite sport that got cut short.

Miller earned All-District honors in both basketball and football earlier this school year. However, his favorite sport, Track and Field, is the program that was most affected by the UIL’s decision to cancel the remainder of the athletic calendar for this year.

Miller’s events varied from relays to open sprints, and this year he competed in the high jump and long jump.

The Garden City boys took home second place overall in last year’s UIL State Track and Field Championships. Miller said the hardest part about this year’s season being cut short is not having the opportunity to win this year’s meet or even get the chance to compete for it at all.

In the meantime, the senior said he is working to come to terms with the abrupt stop to his senior year, and is focusing on staying busy.
