Since her freshman season, Lee first baseman Claudia Carrillo looked forward to her senior year and getting to celebrate Senior Night with the Rebels.

With the recent UIL suspensions in response to COVID-19, Carrillo does not know if she and her teammates will get a senior night, let alone a chance to finish their season.

“It definitely feels…kind of like we got the rug pulled out from underneath us,” she said.

The senior also wanted her team to eclipse the successful season the team had last year- to the third round of the playoffs. Carrillo said she felt the team was finally settled into a routine and getting accustomed to the busy season when it was abruptly suspended.

However, the UIL has made it clear the organization still plans to partake in all championship activities should the opportunity become available. Right now, all UIL activities are postponed until early May.

Carrillo said she is still training in case that scenario does come to fruition.

“Besides working out, I have a net, a tee and a bucket of balls and take some BP in the yard and stay moving around. And stay in touch with my teammates. That’s big, too.”
