ODESSA, Tx (ABC Big 2/Fox 24) – Odessa College announced Tuesday Dayana Acevedo-Rios will be its next head volleyball coach.

Acevedo-Rios joins the Wranglers from Iowa Western Community College, where she was an assistant coach. She helped lead IWCC to top five finishes in the National Tournament in 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2021.

“She has demonstrated success in recruiting, and this year she recruited the player of the year, a setter at Iowa Western. Dayana is energetic and well-prepared to transition to a head coaching role. Her success and personality will play an integral role in retaining and recruiting top-level student-athletes,” said Odessa College Athletic Director Wayne Baker.

While Acevedo-Rios herself played at IWCC, she has some Texas roots. She also played volleyball and earned a degree at UTEP.

Acevedo-Rios replaces former head coach Kristi Gray, who recently accepted a head coaching position at Division 1 University of Louisiana.
