Former UTPB and Houston Astros catcher Evan Gattis, who won a World Series title with the Astros in 2017, gave his thoughts on the sign-stealing scandal that has rocked the MLB.
“…we cheated that’s for sure. And we obviously cheated baseball and cheated fans. Fans felt duped. I feel bad for fans,” he said.
An investigation by MLB confirmed the Astros had cheated during their 2017 season and part of the 2018 season by sign-stealing. Astros manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Jeff Lunhow were both fired following the revelation, and the team lost a first and second-round pick.
Gattis has since retired from baseball. He is the only UTPB player to ever play in the majors.
