BASIN GRIDIRON EXCLUSIVE: Pecos’ Coach Olson responds to Friday’s win

Local Sports

ODESSA, Tx – Pecos got off to a hot start in Friday’s game against Fort Stockton to win 28-21 and improve to 2 and 1 on the year.

The Eagles started the game with a kickoff return to take an early lead. Head coach Chad Olson said that first score gave Pecos the confidence needed to secure the win. He said the Panthers have been the ones to jump to an early lead the last couple of seasons.

Pecos begins district play next week against Greenwood. Olson said one of the difficult things about this season is the amount of games Pecos has been unable to play because of COVID-19 and the schedule issues that accompany it. The Eagles have only played three games through five weeks.

Because of the lack of games, Olson said the team is not in its typical “game shape” it would normally be in this time of year. But he said this next week of conditioning should help prepare the Eagles for Greenwood.
