Houston Astros’ Evan Gattis Plays In UTPB Alumni Game

News

Former UTPB Falcon and current Houston Astros catcher Evan Gattis played in UTPB’s annual alumni baseball game on Saturday.

Gattis played for UTPB during the 2010 season before being selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 2010 MLB Draft. The Braves traded the catcher to the Astros in 2015.

Gattis’ return was also marked by a fundraising event for the baseball program.

The UTPB Baseball fundraiser took place Friday evening and raised more than $140,000 for the program. Gattis said he was happy to have helped raise funds for his former team.

“I’ve wanted to come back for the Alumni game for a long time and I’m glad the timing worked out to where we could put this event on and raise a lot of money for the ballclub and get to show up and play a game,” he said.

Despite having a World Series champion on the team, the Alumni still fell to the current baseball team 13-5.
