Greenwood relishing opportunity to face powerhouse Pleasant Grove

The Greenwood Rangers (14-0, 6-0) will make their second appearance in the State Semifinals on Friday night.

Their opponent, Texarkana Pleasant Grove (13-1, 4-0), will try to advance to its third State Championship game – in a row.

The Hawks won it all in 2017, but came up short in the title game last season to Cuero last year.

The Rangers, on the other hand, have only come this far on one other occasion. In 2002, Greenwood made it to the 3A, Division II State Championship – that year, the Rangers were defeated by Bandera in double-overtime.

While Pleasant Grove’s combination of recent success and highly-touted, next-level prospects have made the Hawks one of the favorites to win it all, Greenwood head coach Rusty Purser says the Rangers are eager to show how they can perform against elite competition.

The 4A DII State Semifinal between the two teams will kick off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night at The Star in Frisco.
