UPTON COUNTY, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – A 72-year-old man from Washington was killed following a three-car crash in Upton County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Troopers were called to the crash around 6:20 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 349, about 10 miles north of Rankin.
While investigating, troopers learned the driver of a Ford F-150, Nicholas Gomez, fell asleep at the wheel and collided with a GMC Acadia and a Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to the DPS report.
Gomez was later transported to Midland Memorial Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.
A passenger in the Acadia, Jonathan Allen, and the driver of the Jeep, Orvil Lugo, were also injured in the crash and taken to Upton County Hospital in Rankin, officials say.
The driver of the Acadia, Dustin Howell, was taken to ORMC with non-incapacitating injuries, according to the report.
The passenger in the Jeep, Darrell Luke, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the report reads.
