ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – On his road to recovery, Cpl. James Santana, like all of those injured in the mass shootings, has all of Texas in his corner.

That includes U.S. Sen. John Cornyn who presented Cpl. Santana with a U.S. flag that had been flown over the Texas State Capitol.

Santana was one of three officers injured in the shootings on Aug. 31. He was released from the hospital last week to crowds who cheered for his continued recovery and thanked him for his service.

Sen. Cornyn visited the Basin shortly after the tragedy. The Senator stood with Mayor David Turner Friday to present a check to the families who lost loved ones and those who were injured.

Cornyn praised law enforcement, including Santana, for their quick response and decisive action last weekend and let the city know, the country stand with Odessa.
