Two A Days: Andrews Mustangs

The Andrews Football Team graduated many starters last season, so the Mustangs are adjusting to some new jerseys on the field.

Though many of the returners did not start, they certainly saw ample playing time.

“One of the things we do every year is we play a lot of kids. And so we may not look like we have a lot coming back when you look at the starters returning, but we’ve got kids that have got experience,” said head coach Ralph Mason.

One of those players is first-year starting quarterback Brett Leach. Leach is a junior this season and saw some playing time behind Jace Keesee.

“I feel pretty confident…I know the system,” Leach said. The new QB1 said he received a lot of advice and help from former Andrews quarterbacks.

The Mustangs are also adjusting to a new style of defense. Tom Harvey is taking over as the new defensive coordinator and is bringing the new defense with him.

“They’re going to get to play a little faster than they have in the past and it’s just going to be a lot more entertaining for them, I guess,” Mason said.

The Mustangs open the season against Lubbock-Cooper on Aug. 31.
