“We are always very busy this time of year. We are expecting a big rush tomorrow,” said John Avara, Enrolled Agent.
The clock is ticking, your income taxes are due Tuesday at midnight; but if you haven’t filed your taxes yet, you’re not alone.
Avara says five million people in the state of Texas, are still waiting for the last minute.
“Some of the craziness is that, you might have some folks bring in some shoe boxes and plastic bags full of receipts, hoping to dig through them all looking for receipts and W-2 forms, and that type of thing,” said Avara.
If you still haven’t filed your taxes, there is no need to worry. Avara says filing tax returns can be done in minutes; if you bring your proper tax documentation to them.
“Your W-2, your 1099’s, all of your sources of income; So if you bought and sold stocks, you need mutual fund statements. You need to get it all together,” said Avara.
Proper Identifications and social security numbers of children are also required. Avara says having them handy will speed up the process!
“It’s a very good idea to go ahead and file your taxes return before the deadline and if you can’t file your tax return for some reason, than you definitely need to file an extension. An extension will avoid having to pay penalties to the IRS for late filing.”
To file an extension, you have until tomorrow night; and once extension is filed, you will have until October 15th to file your taxes.
