It is time to put on your best Saint Patrick’s Day gear and head out to Downtown Odessa on Saturday.
Tap Into Downtown Odessa will be a Saint Patrick’s Day themed event filled with local vendors and live music. More than 20 vendors will be spread out throughout Grant Avenue to participate, but Event Coordinator, Alexa Moulakis, says tomorrow’s event is a small part of a bigger picture.
“Having people come down and see the downtown businesses and have those businesses do some kind of activity and participate in it is really a great way for people to see, ‘Oh, we have this here, these people are really interesting, look at all the cool things they have in their shops, look at this venue we can rent.’,” said Moulakis.
She says it will be bigger and better this year with a new VIP section that will open as early as 1PM. General Admissions will open its doors at 2PM and continue until 7PM. The event will extend from Grant and 4th to Grant and 6th, and prices are $20 for General Admission and $100 for VIP. Tickets will be available at the door for $25.
“Local businesses is what’s going to make the City of Odessa, and downtown in particular, thrive,” explained Moulakis. “And that’s part of what’s fueling the revitalization, is fueling our businesses and showcasing what we have.”
She says doing this will help the economy, the city, and the revitalization of downtown. Rooster’s Diner’s Owner, Erik Prado, says the city’s efforts have impacted him firsthand.
“The revitalization project helped our restaurant with grant incentives, and so it is a good thing to give back to the City of Odessa and just participate,” said Prado.
And for many local businesses like Rooster’s Diner, it is an opportunity to make an impression.
“It’s not about selling for me. You do want some exposure, we want people to know that, ‘Hey, there’s a jewlery store downtown.’ But we want them to have a good time and know that downtown is still alive and kickin.’,” said Isy’s Fine Jewelry’s Owner, Isy Galvan.
He says the biggest problem is resident being unaware of all Odessa has to offer. He says he is grateful the city is brining more event like this right to his front door.
