Odessa Police confirm that the suspect believed to be involved in a carjacking last month has been arrested.

Officials say Ian Jacob Collins was arrested by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force Friday morning.

The carjacking took place the same day an OPD Office was struck by a vehicle.

The investigation began back on May 23 when OPD officers were called to the 2700 block of Hancock about a home invasion.

At the scene, a victim told police someone kicked in their front door, held them at gunpoint and made off with cell phones, cash and a Jeep Cherokee, according to a release.

The suspect then fled the scene.

Later that morning, Cpl. Teddy Yelley noticed the vehicle and a suspect in the area of 40th and Golder Avenue.

Police officials say Cpl. Yelley was then struck by another officer who was responding to assist.

Cpl. Yelley was taken to Medical Center Hospital with serious injuries. Thankfully, Cpl. Yelley is recovering and has since been released from the hospital.

However, the suspect, Ian Jacob Collins, remained at-large until Friday.
