Six Basin Athletes Sign To Play College Football


Six athletes from across the Permian Basin extended their football careers on National Signing Day.

At Permian, three Panthers signed on to play in the Big 12. It was the first time in school history three seniors signed scholarships offers to play college football in a Power Five conference.

Quarterback Peyton Powell and linebacker Matt Jones signed on to play at Baylor. Powell announced his decision Wednesday morning after previously committing to Texas.

Offensive lineman Landon Peterson elected to stay close to home and attend Texas Tech. He was previously a verbal commit to Baylor, as well.

In the Tall City, Midland High quarterback Suddin Sapien followed through on his pledge to join UTSA.

At Andrews, senior interior lineman Reece Azam chose to further his career at Air Force.

At Midland Christian, another interior lineman, Jake Stephen, signed on to play at Culver-Stockton, an NAIA school in Canton, Missouri.
