Several cars destroyed, chemicals spilled in overnight fire

Several crews were busy overnight as they battled a fire in Gardendale. 

Officials say around 11:25 p.m. Tuesday night, Odessa Fire/Rescue, the Ector County Sheriff’s Office, Ector County Environmental Enforcement, Midland Fire Department, Goldsmith Volunteer Fire Department and the Gardendale Volunteer Fire Department responded to 12030 E. Highway 158 about an explosion. 

The resulting fire damaged about 20 vehicles and about 40 totes of chemicals were destoryed causing about 13,000 gallons to spill in the area, according to a release. 

Currently, the cause of the fire is unknown and no injuries were reported. 

The investigation is ongoing.
