Senate bill 1256

According to Senator Kel Seliger, a new Bill that would protect all students in Texas, is a major step towards education reform.

Senator Kel Seliger says “we have the same thing for Police Officers. This is something that if it protects a child from innaporpriate behavior then it’s worth while.”

According to Senator Seliger, this registry is a way to let principals across districts see who was let go for misconduct, that way they know to not hire them.

“So school districts don’t go and unknowingly hire somebody who might be a threat or risk to students,” Seliger says.

According to the Principal of St.Johns Episcopal School this new protection for Private Schools can be a big help in the hiring process.

Emily McDoniel, St. Johns Episcopal School Principal, says “this empowers anyone in the private school sector to be able to know exactly who is coming on their campus to apply for a job.”

McDoniel saying that because private schools are some what removed from public schools having this registry will serve as a way to help guide her and ensure her campus is just as safe.

Odessa Christian School Principal, Nancy Campbell, adds “I could possibly use the list to vet candidates that have made application.”

Campbell says she is confident in the system currently in place at her school but thanks Senators for going above and beyond to keep all schools safe in Texas.

“I appreciate our Senate at work and Congressmen doing what they need to do to protect our kids and our Schools and make it a better community.”
