ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – We introduce you to an amazing woman who runs her own business and juggles a family including three young children. Our Monica Quintero introduces us to our first finalist of our “Remarkable Woman” contest. She truly is remarkable.
Meet Dr. Hillary Brunner. She got emotional when we told her she was one of our finalists.
“It’s just nice to hear, it is nice to hear, it makes you feel special,” said Dr. Brunner. It makes you feel all the work you’re doing is affecting somebody in the right way.”
Dr. Brunner knows it’s not the most glamorous job but she’s passionate about what she does.
“I used to be in ballet and so I had plenty of foot problems. I had lovely bunions, I had nails that popped off,” said Dr. Brunner.
She has quite the resume receiving an undergraduate education at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and attended medical school at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Brunner now runs her own practice, Basin Podiatry, opening it ten years ago in Odessa.
She said, “I have an amazing staff here, there’s no way I could do this without them. ”
She manages a staff of seven and they agree she’s just as amazing.
Sheri Hubbs joined her staff in 2013
“I worked for the postal service for 13 years and I met Dr. Brunner due to an injury from working at the postal service. I had to have foot surgery. She did my foot surgery and got me healthy and back to where I am today without having any foot issues. I left my job at the post office to come and work for her,” said Hubbs.
Another staff member, Coree Lawson, is thrilled to work for a compassionate employer.
Lawson said, “I have a child with special needs and she’s very understanding and accomodating to the fact that with that comes added doctor visits and added therapies and things like that.”
Eva Beckwith, also on Dr. Brunner’s staff,” said “She really relates to her patients and not just her patients but her staff on a one-on-one basis.”
Along with her busy work schedule, she also has a family. She’s the mother of three young girls.
“I think she’s really got the ability to really juggle it all,” said Lawson.
She seems to juggle everything perfectly. Her patients speak highly of Dr. Brunner as well.
Charlotte Pierson, Midland Resident, said, “She’s done two surgeries on my husband’s right foot and she’s wonderful.”
“She’s just very, very professional,” said James Pierson, a patient.
Raul Gonzalez is also a patient and drives from Pecos to see her.
“She’s real nice and everything, she helps you a lot,” said Gonzalez.
“I i think what I do everyday is what every other mom or employee does. We go and we give 100 percent at our job and then go home and take care of our family the same way. So it’s an honor, it really was an honor.”
Dr. Brunner also spends time providing care to nursing home residents at facilities in both Midland and Odessa.
