ODESSA, Texas (ABC Big 2 / FOX 24) – As the vaccination process begins, there is hope on the horizon and it could be seen Sunday as thousands lined up at Ratliff Stadium.
Medical Center Hospital officially opened the vaccination site this weekend and the turnout was overwhelming.
“So far everything has been going pretty smooth and its just been an amazing sight this morning,” said MCH President Russell Tippin
As the kick start of the drive-thru happens, Russell is advising people to pre-register online.
“The pre-resigtration is the key its proved to be the sucess to move people through there.”
Steve Mason, retired Healthcare Systems CEO said the efficiency of the drive-thru is amazing.
“Its a model that people ought to look at and use.”
With a background in healthcare he recommends everyone get the vaccination.
“The science that has gone into it means that for any future pandemics that we have we’ve got a different footprint than we’ve had with the flu.”
Tippin is aware the line to wait for the shot is long and he advises for community members to fill up their gas tanks and use the bathroom before getting in line.
He also encourages pet owners to leave thier pets at home.
“We’re asking people don’t bring their pets here they get out of their cars walking around and that puts people at safety problems.”
Volunteers have been a huge help in making the vaccination process smoother and Tippin is very happy to have them on the team.
“What I told the volunteers this morning is that they are the tip of the sword, this is the first strike at this disease this virus to knock it out of our community,” said Tippin.
If you could not make it out to the drive-thru clinc hours are the same every day of the week 9am – 3pm.
