PRESIDIO COUNTY, Texas (Nexstar)- Presidio County Sheriff’s deputies responded to assist U.S. Border Patrol in a high-speed chase early Wednesday.
Around 5:30 a.m. deputies were called to help with the chase along Highway 67.
The Sheriff’s Office says the driver of a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu failed to yield after turning around before a checkpoint south of Marfa.
Presidio deputies deployed spikes to flatten the tires just north of Presidio to prevent the driver from entering town. However, the driver continued with three flat tires until deputies forced the vehicle off the road.
The driver, a U.S. citizen, ran away but was caught by Border Patrol shortly after.
Inside the car, deputies found seven illegal migrants.
All have been referred to Border Patrol for processing. The driver will then be referred to Homeland Security for federal prosecution for human smuggling.
The Sheriff’s Office says it will also charge the driver with evading arrest.
