Pete’s Eats: Pody’s BBQ

Take a trip to Pecos and you’ll find a converted laundromat churning out what could be some of the best BBQ in the state.

Watch the video above for the full story.

Pody’s BBQ opened in August of 2011. Israel “Pody” Campos grew up in Pecos, studied criminal justice at Odessa College and started a career in law enforcement. He got the opportunity to travel while working for the Texas Municipal Police Association. While traveling, he got to visit some of the state’s marquee BBQ restaurants.

When a layoff forced him to have a career change, he took out his retirement to open the place. Since then, the family’s restaurant has picked up plenty of attention.

Texas Monthly placed Pody’s BBQ in its Top-50 BBQ Restaurants in the state. You can find Pody’s wife Veronica working full time – along with his mother Margaret, aunts, cousins and the kids help out with big events.

You can find Pody’s BBQ at the corner of Highway 285 (Cedar Street) and 14th Street.
