ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – A Permian High student was arrested on Thursday for “Threat of Exhibition of Firearm on School Property.”

The student threatened to shoot up the school after his phone was taken away in class, ECISD officials say.

Brett Ivy, 18, was released Friday on bond after the threats, jail records show.

The school district issued a statement saying they do not believe the threat was real but “all such statements will be taken seriously and criminal charges will be pressed, whether or not it was intended as a joke or said in a moment of anger. “
