Patient shot at Medical Center Hospital died from self-inflicted gunshot wound

UPDATE (10/10/18): The federal prisoner in U.S. Marshal custody died from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. The patient has not been identified as Andres Rios, 26 of Midland. He was hospitalized after a failed suicide attempt at the Ector County Correctional Center. On October 8th, Rios assaulted and disarmed a correctional officer at the hospital using the gun to commit suicide.

UPDATE: The federal prisoner in U.S. Marshal custody died after being shot at Medical Center Hospital.

U.S. Marshals are not able to comment any further at this time.

Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.

A patient in the custody of U.S. marshals was shot at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa today.

Officials with the hospital tell us it happened just after 4:00 P.M.

We’re told that the patient is in critical condition and no one else was injured.
