ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Parents at ECISD are deciding between online learning, a hybrid model, and in-person learning for the upcoming school year.
Some parents like Catherine Daniels and Lauren James say they’ve put a lot of thought into that decision and already know what they are going to chose.
Daniels said, “I really feel like face-to-face learning is where we are at with our family. My kids, they’ve just missed out on so much of that learning.”
“We are due with our third in October and so we have just chosen to keep ours home because we are trying to stay as healthy as we can before delivery and then of course with a newborn,” said James.
James, who is a former ECISD Teacher feels confident knowing her kids will still be able to learn at home but may reconsider switching if things change.
“She [her daughter] has just noticed how different the world is right now that I think she just kind of knows it wouldn’t be the same school she would be going back to so she was kind of okay just knowing that it might not be the same way it was at the end of the school year,” said James.
Daniels is grateful the district is providing an in-person option and that they are being open about potential closures if anyone is exposed.
“I think just being able as a parent to be prepared for that you know going into it that there is a possibility that the campus might have to close and you may have to do virtual for a week or two or a day or two but at least knowing all of that and knowing the plan ahead of time gives me a lot of peace of mind as a parent,” she said.
