Parents partner with ‘Click it or Ticket’ to share their powerful personal story


It was October 28, 2017  when David and Wendy M+ills got the call that no parent ever wants to get; their ‘ray of sunshine’ was killed in a car crash.
“She was definitely very full of life, goofy, her laugh alone. She had a unique laugh,” says mom Wendy Mills 

Just blocks from her home, heading to a halloween party, Kailee quickly unbulckled to take a ‘selfie’, that’s when her car veered off the road.

Father, David Mills, saying “you can never let your guard down, it doesn’t matter how far away you’re going.”

Her three friends walked away with minor cuts but Kailee, didn’t make it..

 “We know that if she would have been wearing her seat belt she would still be here,” says David 

Since their daughters passing the Mills have taken it upon themselves to partner with ‘Click it or Ticket’ to spread the importance of wearing a seat belt.

They say they want to “help others the way that she would want us to continue on without her.”

Statistics show there has been an increase of people wearing seat belts  since the start of the Click it or Ticket Campaign but more still needs to be done.

Chief Michael Gerke from OPD says “men buckle up less than women and many drivers and passangers don’t always buckle up at night.”

According to TxDOT, wearing a seat belt reduces the risk of dying in a crash by 45% in cars and 60% in pickup trucks.
