OPD Officer is hit by a car while trying to apprehend a suspect

This all began Wednesday when Odessa Police responded to a robbery. According to Cpl. Steve LeSueur with the Odessa Police Department the ”investigation revealed that unknown subjects pointed a gun at two victims, and then they stole their vehicle.”

That same vehicle spotted on 40th and Golder early Thursday morning at around 7:30 A.M. OPD saying ”while officers were on scene they observed a male subject believed to be the suspect. As soon as they made contact with him he took off running and during the incident there was an OPD Officer that was struck by a vehicle.”

That officer,  identified by OPD as Corporal Teddy Yelley,  was taken to Odessa Medical Center Hospital. According to OPD  he sustained serious bodily injuries and is in  fair condition. Now the search is on for the man who ran from the scene.

According to OPD the suspect was later identified as Ian Jacob Collins. As Collins exited the vehicle and began to flee the scene a second OPD officer assisting with the call accidentally struck Corporal Yelley with his vehicle.

LeSueur says although he has been identified the suspect is still at large and ”at this time the Odessa Police Department is searching for that suspect.”

They say ”anyone with information in reference to this investigation, know where the suspect is or if they see any suspicious activity in that area, specifically 40th and Golder,  they are encouraged to contact the Odessa Police Department.”

Right now, multiple agencies are looking for the suspect. According to OPD ”at this time no arrests have been made and more information will be released later today”
