OPD, MPD Honor Guard Headed to Washington

(Local 2/Fox 24) - The Odessa and Midland Police Departments will be sending their Honor Guard to Washington D.C. this week.

Officers in the Honor Guard will represent their cities for National Police Week.

NPW was put into place by former President John F. Kennedy in 1962. President Kennedy designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week as National Police Week.

During that week, officers from across the country head to D.C. to pay respects to their fellow officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Our local officers will depart for Washington on Friday.
