OPD graduates eight new officers

ODESSA, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) – Odessa Police Academy graduated their nineteenth class. After a lot of classes and training, eight new officers were sworn in. The ceremony was held at the MCM Elegante Hotel and the room was filled with officers and family members.

Friends, family, and fellow officers gathered in celebration of the new graduates. Graduates were given awards, their diploma, and even had family members come up and pin their badge on for them.

OPD Chief says it is like bringing in eight new members of the family. Chief Gerke is eager in working alongside the new officers.

Though they are not stand-alone officers yet. The new officers will go through about three and a half months of field training before they patrol on their own.
