LEA COUNTY, New Mexico (Big 2/Fox 24) – A 20-year-old man was killed following a head-on crash in Lea County, according to a release from the New Mexico State Police Thursday.
Police were called to the crash around 12:51 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 176 just west of Eunice, New Mexico.
While investigating, officers learned that Erick Navarette, of Carlsbad, NM was headed west on Highway 176 when he crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with a Ford pickup, according to the release.
NMSP officials say it is unknown why Navarette crossed the center line. He was transported to the hospital from the scene and was later pronounced dead by medical personnel, according to the report.
The driver of the Ford, and a passenger in Navarette’s vehicle also sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash, NMSP officials say.
